Hit the Slopes: Dodge Ridge Ski Resort

If your family loves snow, Dodge Ridge Ski Resort is a must-visit in the winter. Whether you’re an experienced skier or trying it for the first time, there are slopes for all skill levels. And if skiing isn’t your thing, don’t worry—there’s also snow tubing, which is a blast for kids (and grown-ups who want to feel like kids again!). Read more about our experience at Dodge Ridge HERE.

Tips: Parking fills up quickly here so arrive early. The snow tubing also sells out and can only be purchased on site (first come, first serve).

More Snowy Fun: Leland Snowplay

For even more snowy excitement, head over to Leland Snowplay, a snow tubing paradise perfect for families. They have specially designed tubing hills, and you don’t even have to hike back up—there’s a lift to bring you to the top. It’s all the fun without the effort!

Tips: This place can get very crowded on weekends and will sell out of admission tickets, so plan to arrive early- or even better, visit on a weekday. Bonus: tickets are a little cheaper on weekdays.

Farm Fun & Brunch at Cover’s Apple Ranch

No trip to Tuolumne County is complete without a stop at Cover’s Apple Ranch. Start your day with a delicious brunch, then explore the farm, say hello to the adorable animals, and hop on the mini train ride. There's even a playground. Highly recommend getting pie and cider from here too. It’s a sweet spot for a relaxed family morning. We really loved our visit here!

Playtime at Heaven for Kids Playground + Lunch at Standard Pour

Got active kids? Take them to Heaven for Kids, an awesome playground with plenty of space to run, climb, and slide. Once they’ve burned off some energy, grab a bite at Standard Pour, a cozy eatery nearby with tasty burgers, sandwiches, and a welcoming vibe.

Bounce Around at Elevate Trampoline Gym

Need an indoor activity? Check out Elevate Trampoline Gym inside Black Oak Casino. The kids will love jumping, flipping, and bouncing, and there’s even a special toddler area. It’s the perfect way to get out some energy, rain or shine! We ran out of time and didn't get to try this but it is high on our list for our next visit.

Glide Across the Ice at Long Barn Lodge

For a classic winter activity, head to Long Barn Lodge and enjoy some ice skating. The ice rink is open mid-November through mid-March. Whether you’re a pro or just learning, it’s a fun and festive way to spend an afternoon.

Tee Off at Twain Harte Mini Golf

Mini golf is always a hit with the family, and the Twain Harte Mini Golf course is a charming spot with fun obstacles and beautiful scenery. Challenge the kids to a friendly game and see who can score a hole-in-one!

Step Back in Time at Columbia State Historic Park

Take a trip back to the Gold Rush era at Columbia State Historic Park. This living history town is filled with old-fashioned shops, stagecoach rides, and even gold panning. It’s a fun (and educational!) way to spend the day. After exploring, grab a bite at the famous St. Charles Saloon, where the pizza is legendary. Try the pickle pizza!

Hike to Natural Bridges + Lunch at Mandy’s

If your family enjoys hiking, don’t miss the trail to Natural Bridges. Ok this one is technically not Tuolumne County (it's Calaveras County, but it's close enough to get to if you're staying in Sonora like we were).

This 2.2 mile hike leads to stunning limestone formations and a cool, clear swimming hole in warmer months. Afterward, refuel at Mandy’s, a local favorite known for delicious comfort food and friendly service.

Where to Stay: Sonora Straw Bale

After all that adventure, you’ll need a cozy place to stay! We recommend the unique Sonora Straw Bale, an eco-friendly and family-friendly home in Sonora that sleeps 6, and offers a comfy stay on a beautiful property.

Tuolumne County is packed with fun for the whole family, no matter the season. Whether you’re hitting the slopes, exploring history, or just enjoying good food, it’s the perfect spot for a memorable family trip.

Other Places to Stay:

The Pinecone House (Twain Harte)- sleeps 13
